Dollar General Clearance Event: Save 50%+ This November

If you love the thrill of penny shopping at Dollar General, you’re going to be obsessed with their clearance events. We’re expecting the next one to hit in mid-November, and when it does, you can score an extra 50% off hundreds of already-marked-down items in store.

Now here’s the thing — these events are in-store only, so inventory will vary. But savvy shoppers often walk away with 70% savings (or more!) once the sale, markdowns, and extra discounts stack.

Before you head out, it’s important to know which items to look for, because not everything will be 50% off — and these deals are completely separate from the weekly ad. You’ll also want to understand clearance tag colors, app scanning tricks, and the best Dollar General coupons to clip ahead of time (hello, $5 off $25 Saturday coupon!).

What exactly is a Dollar General Clearance Event?

Dollar General hosts Clearance Events every few months, offering an extra 50% off select in-store items. To make room for new seasonal inventory, most locations participate, and the markdowns are typically the same across participating stores.

What types of clearance events does Dollar General hold?

Dollar General typically has two main types of clearance events:

CORE Clearance

CORE clearance includes everyday store items marked down because they are being discontinued, replaced, or overstocked.
These items are usually already reduced by 50% off or more, and during a clearance event they receive an additional discount on top of the markdown.
✅ Can include household products, cleaning supplies, health & beauty, toys, home goods, pet items, and more.
✅ These are year-round items — not tied to seasons or holidays.

Seasonal Clearance

Seasonal clearance includes holiday and seasonal merchandise after an event or season ends (example: Halloween, Christmas, Summer, Back-to-School).
These items move through scheduled markdown stages like 50% → 70% → 90% → Penny.
✅ Includes décor, paper goods, apparel, gift wrap, lawn & garden, outdoor items, etc.
✅ Often hits its lowest price BEFORE a big clearance event — stack savings if the timing lines up!

When is the next Dollar General Clearance Event

How did we predict this date?

Dollar General does not follow a set schedule for clearance events — they simply drop when they drop. However, there is a pattern:

✅ Events typically occur every 4–8 weeks
✅ Most run Friday–Sunday
✅ A few times a year, the sale extends Friday–Thursday

With the last clearance event timing and seasonal cycles in mind, November 14–20 lines up perfectly with DG’s historical rhythm.

Dollar General hasn’t officially announced the dates for their next clearance event (and they never do), but based on last year’s timing and current markdown patterns, we predict the next Dollar General Clearance Event will run Friday, November 14 – Thursday, November 20, 2025.

As of October 31, none of the clearance items found in the clearance aisle are scanning with upcoming-event pricing. Typically, when a clearance event is approaching, these items begin showing additional markdown behavior in the app — and that has not started yet. This is consistent with a mid-November event timeframe.

We’ll continue watching the system and in-store tags closely. Once scanning behavior flips or stores begin prepping sale signage, that will be our first solid confirmation. Stay tuned — and as always, we’ll share updates the moment things start moving.

What Are CORE Items in a Dollar General Clearance Event?

CORE items are everyday products that Dollar General is phasing out — usually because of changes in scents, sizes, packaging, or discontinued lines. These items can be found either in the clearance aisle or still sitting in their regular spot on the shelf.

Normally, CORE markdowns are only around 10% off, but during a Dollar General Clearance Event, these same items receive an additional 50% off the already-reduced price — making them some of the best deals in the store.

CORE items can include things like cleaning supplies, laundry products, paper goods, personal care, household essentials, and more.

Note: The price you see when you scan an item in the Dollar General app on the day of the clearance event is the final price. It will not take an extra 50% off the price shown — the discount is already included in the scanned price.

Where Can I Find Clearance Items at Dollar General?

When you’re browsing a Dollar General, clearance items can show up in a few key places. First, check the designated clearance aisle or table, which often features seasonal or overstock product marked with bold yellow or red tags. You’ll also find clearance-marked items in their normal shelving locations, especially when CORE items are being phased out — such items will have a clearance sticker or dot, even in the regular section. Use the store app to help scan item codes for real-time pricing, and pay attention to the top-shelf or end-cap displays, where markdowns often get rotated in. Don’t forget to check end-of-aisle pallets and near register displays, as clearance items sometimes land there ahead of or during a clearance event. Always scan before you purchase to confirm the price is correct.

What Can I Do to Prepare for the Dollar General Clearance Event?

Preparation is key to winning a Dollar General clearance event. Start by scanning items in advance so you know what’s already discounted and where it’s located — clearance can be in the dedicated clearance aisle or hidden on regular shelves. Make a list of stores to visit and scout them ahead of time to spot good markdowns early. Clip any manufacturer and Dollar General digital coupons, because stacking coupons with clearance pricing can lead to huge savings. Make sure your DG app is updated and your phone is charged for fast scanning in-store. On event day, go early, bring reusable bags or totes for easy cart loading, and be ready to move quickly — the best items go fast. A little prep goes a long way toward maximizing your haul!
